There was a surprise result in Mikawa where ninth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (15-24) beat higher ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (24-16) 96-92 on Sunday. Tokyo Cinq R. shot 32 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Hamamatsu Phoenix only scored fifteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Hamamatsu Phoenix 58-47 including 25 on the offensive glass. Hamamatsu Phoenix was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Ricky Woods (194-84, college: SE Louisiana) had a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Jonathan Jones (211-79, agency: TSS Management) chipped in 24 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Tokyo Cinq R. will face higher ranked Toyama Grouses (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play against the league's second-placed Yokohama BC where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
