The most exciting game of round 26 in the Express L. took place in Hafnarfjordur. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Haukar (12-14) to eighth ranked Fjolnir (4-22) 72-70 on Wednesday evening. Haukar was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) who scored 25 points and 8 assists. Forward Heidrun Harpa Rikhardsdottir (173-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. American swingman Siarre Evans (178-88, college: E.Tenn.St.) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 19 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and guard Gunnhildur Gunnarsdottir (175-90) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Haukar's coach Bjarni Magnusson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fjolnir maintains eighth position with 4-22 record. Haukar at the other side keeps the fifth place with 14 games lost. Fjolnir are looking forward to face higher ranked Grindavik (#7) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Haukar will play against KR in Reykjavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
