Important game to mention about took place in Tokyo. Fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (22-18) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Toyota Alvark (30-10) 70-69 on Saturday evening. Strangely Toyota Alvark outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 47-32 including 34 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks and American center Darren Fenn (208-80, college: Canisius, agency: Three Eye Sports) who added 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Keijuro Matsui (188-85, college: Columbia) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Toyota Alvark keeps the second position with ten games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against higher ranked Toshiba Thunders (#3) in Kanagawa in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Toyota Alvark will play at home against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and hopes to get back on the winning track.
