There was a small surprise in Bologna where ninth ranked Irpino (10-13) won against 7th ranked Meccanica NB (11-12) 70-61 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 19-7 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Irpino dominated on the defensive end, holding Meccanica NB to just 7 points in third quarter. Naturalized Argentinian guard Valentina Maggi (171-85) stepped up and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Adriana Grasso (189-74) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Irpino players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Monica Bonafede (186-85) responded with 9 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Elisabetta Tassinari (171-94) scored 14 points and 6 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Irpino. Newly promoted Irpino maintains ninth place in South with 10-13 record. Meccanica NB lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. Irpino will face higher ranked Min.Battipaglia (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
