Regular Season Round 27: Haukar - KR 71-65

Very important is a road loss of third ranked KR (17-9) against fifth ranked Haukar (13-14) on Wednesday night. Visiting KR was defeated by Haukar in a tough game in Hafnarfjordur 65-71. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of KR. It looked good early as KR took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Haukar had a 30-11 second period charge getting the lead and KR was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-71. Strangely KR outrebounded Haukar 46-31 including a 26-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Haukar especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. It was a great evening for American swingman Siarre Evans (178-88, college: E.Tenn.St.) who led her team to a victory scoring 26 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Gunnhildur Gunnarsdottir (175-90) helped adding 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Shannon McCallum (177-87, college: Charlotte) with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and the former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88, agency: Promotex) scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Haukar maintains fifth place with 13-14 record. KR at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. Haukar will play against Grindavik (#7) on the road in the next round. KR will play against the league's second-placed Snaefell (#2) in Stykkisholmur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
