Very important is a road loss of third ranked Panionios (16-5) against fourteenth ranked Panelefsiniakos (5-16) on Saturday night. Visiting Panionios was defeated by Panelefsiniakos in a tough game in Eleusina 72-76. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Panionios won fourth quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panelefsiniakos made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (189-83, agency: FCM) stepped up and scored 21 points and 4 assists for the winners and American power forward Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was naturalized Serbian forward Vladimir Jankovic (202-90, agency: FCM) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Nikos Pappas (195-90, agency: FCM) scored 10 points and 5 assists. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panelefsiniakos moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Peristeri GS and Kavala. Panionios at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with PAOK. Panelefsiniakos will play against higher ranked Apollon Patras (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
