No shocking result in a game when third ranked Groningen (23-10) smashed at home 7th ranked M.Magixx (15-18) 95-74 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-74. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to M.Magixx's 30. They outrebounded M.Magixx 44-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Rogier Jansen (188-84, agency: Court Side) helped adding 18 points and 4 assists. Groningen's coach Ivica Skelin felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American-Italian guard Roman Nardi (186-85, college: Villanova) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and British forward Shane Walker (208-87, college: Loyola, MD) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Groningen maintains third place with 23-10 record having three points less than leader Den Bosch. Loser M.Magixx keeps the seventh position with 18 games lost. They share it with Weert. Groningen will meet Zwolle (#4) on the road in the next round. M.Magixx will play against Weert and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
