There was no surprise when 10th ranked Miyazaki Shining Suns (9-36) were crushed at home by seventh ranked Osaka Evessa (18-25) 94-62 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-62. Osaka Evessa dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Miyazaki Shining Suns' 36. They outrebounded Miyazaki Shining Suns 42-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota, agency: SportsTalent) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Osaka Evessa players scored in double figures. Osaka Evessa's coach Bill Cartwright felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and American power forward Thomas Fairley (206-82, college: Lamar) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Osaka Evessa. They maintain seventh place with 18-25 record. Loser Miyazaki Shining Suns keep the tenth position with 36 games lost. Osaka Evessa will face higher ranked Kyoto Hannar. (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
