Rather expected game when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (11-33) were edged at home by eighth ranked Oita Heat Devils (18-28) 100-98 on Sunday. Oita Heat Devils looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) who scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Oita Heat Devils players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Court Side) who recorded 41 points (!!!) and 7 assists and point guard Takuma Yamashiro (167-85) added 17 points and 24 rebounds respectively. Oita Heat Devils have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 18-28 record, which they share with Takamatsu FA. Saitama Broncos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 33 games lost. Oita Heat Devils will face Miyazaki Shining Suns (#10) at home in the next round. Saitama Broncos will play against Gunma and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
