The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Niigata Albirex (31-15) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (26-20) 79-72. American point guard Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. The former international center Atsuya Ohta (206-84) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Ryuji Kawai used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) replied with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import center Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix moved-up to fifth place. Niigata Albirex at the other side still keeps top position with 15 games lost. They share it with Toyama Grouses and Yokohama BC. Hamamatsu Phoenix are looking forward to face higher ranked Fukuoka Rizing (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Niigata Albirex will play against Akita Happinets and is hoping to win this game.
