There was a surprise result when seventh ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (3-3) smashed at home second-best Pioneros Los Mochis (3-1) 87-62 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Fuerza Guinda Nogales. Pioneros Los Mochis was better in fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fuerza Guinda Nogales made 8 blocks. American guard Dallas Logan (193-82, college: Northwood) scored 21 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and international forward Michael Strobbe (201-85) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Fuerza Guinda Nogales players scored in double figures. Fuerza Guinda Nogales' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard James Lewis (191-86, college: Fresno Pacific) with 22 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward John Ruffus (207-81, college: Fayetteville St.) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Fuerza Guinda Nogales moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Hermosillo. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis dropped to the third position with one game lost. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will face Rayos de Hermosillo (#5) on the road in the next round. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against the league's leader Ostioneros de Guaymas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
