Second Stage Round 9: Anwil - Trefl Sopot 64-70

The game between Top Four teams took place in Wloclawek. 4th placed host Anwil (18-13) lost to third ranked Trefl Sopot (19-11) 70-64. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 29-12 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Trefl Sopot made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was international swingman Adam Waczynski (199-89) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Antiguan-American power forward Kurt Looby (208-84, college: Iowa) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Marcus Ginyard (196-87, college: N.Carolina, agency: Interperformances) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Ruben Boykin (201-85, college: N.Arizona) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Anwil's coach Milija Bogicevic tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Trefl Sopot moved-up to second place in Places 1-6, which they share with Stelmet ZG. Anwil lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 13 games lost. Trefl Sopot will meet at home Asseco Prok. (#5) in the next round. Anwil will play against Asseco Prok. in Gdynia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
