Regular Season Round 9: Obregon - Guasave 87-84

The most exciting game of round 9 in the CIBACOPA took place in Ciudad Obregon. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Frayles de Guasave (2-5) to second ranked Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon (4-3) 87-84 on Tuesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-84. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for Kenny Jones (198-84, college: Kentucky St., agency: Dream Team Management) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Eric Frederick (203-88, college: Texas Wesleyan) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard Eniel Polynice (195-88, college: Seton Hall) added 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Frayles de Guasave. Four Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Los Mochis. Frayles de Guasave at the other side dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Tijuana. Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon is again looking forward to face Frayles de Guasave (#7) at home in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will have a break next round.
