Regular Season Round 32: St Quentin - Le Portel 104-96
Date: April 19, 2013
An interesting game took place in Saint-Quentin where higher ranked Le Portel (20-12) was upset on the court of thirteenth ranked Saint-Quentin (14-18) 104-96. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But Le Portel won second period 28-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Saint-Quentin won last quarter 28-22. They shot 61.4 percent from the field and made 24-of-31 charity shots (77.4 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Saint-Quentin especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. Le Portel was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by point guard Olivier Romain (182-88) who scored that evening 18 points and Bahamas power forward Lavar Simmons (201-83, college: Master's) supported him with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Even 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by American forward Darnell Wilson (198-85, college: Canisius, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Le Portel. His fellow American import point guard Ronnie Taylor (188-81, college: NC-Greensboro, agency: Court Side) added 26 points, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the guests. Five Saint-Quentin and four Le Portel players scored in double figures. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Saint-Quentin maintains thirteenth position with 14-18 record. Le Portel at the other side keeps the fourth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Fos Ouest and Boulogne. Saint-Quentin will play against Denain Voltaire (#14) on the road in the next round. Le Portel will play against the league's second-placed ALM Evreux (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
