Regular Season Round 53: Shinshu BW - Sendai 89ers 79-81

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Shinshu BW (16-33) was edged by seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (20-29) in Nagano 81-79 on Saturday. Shinshu BW cut a 16-point halftime deficit to two at the end of the game. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 23 rebounds. His fellow American import forward T.J. Cummings (205-81, college: UCLA) contributed with 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Takato Saito (181-85) answered with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and American power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Shinshu BW. Four Sendai 89ers and five Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers maintains seventh place with 20-29 record. Shinshu BW lost fourteenth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 33 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round. Shinshu BW will play again at home against Sendai 89ers (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
