Very important is a home loss of third ranked Mineros de Cananea (4-8) against ninth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (5-5) on Saturday night. Host Mineros de Cananea was crushed by Tijuana Zonkeys in Cananea 105-83. The game was mostly controlled by Tijuana Zonkeys. Mineros de Cananea was better in second period 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tijuana Zonkeys made 29-of-33 charity shots (87.9 percent) during the game, while Mineros de Cananea only scored nine points from the stripe. It was a good game for American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. Five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) replied with 32 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Orlando Zuniga (192-82) added 13 points in the effort for Mineros de Cananea. Mineros de Cananea's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to third place, which they share with Los Mochis and Nogales. Mineros de Cananea at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against league's second-placed Rayos de Hermosillo at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mineros de Cananea will have a break next round.
