Regular Season Round 53: Oita H.Devils - Toyama Grouses 91-85

The game between third ranked Toyama Grouses (32-17) and eighth ranked Oita Heat Devils (21-30) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Toyama Grouses were defeated by Oita Heat Devils in a tough game in Oita 85-91. Toyama Grouses were trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 38-30 charge of Oita Heat Devils, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana, agency: Edge Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import center Thomas Granado (208-88, college: Concordia Irvine) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Oita Heat Devils' coach Yukinori Suzuki used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: SDJ Sports) answered with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Takeshi Mito (184-85) added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Toyama Grouses. Five Oita Heat Devils and four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Oita Heat Devils maintains eighth place with 21-30 record. Toyama Grouses at the other side dropped to the second position with 17 games lost. They share it with Yokohama BC and Iwate Big Bulls. Oita Heat Devils are again looking forward to face higher ranked Toyama Grouses (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round.
