Regular Season Round 24: Kavala - Kolossos 66-70
Date: April 20, 2013
There was no surprise when 14th ranked Kavala (5-18) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Kolossos (8-16) 70-66 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kavala won third quarter 24-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kolossos made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Kolossos had a 26-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American-DR Congolese power forward Bambale Osby (203-86, college: Maryland) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and American point guard Marcus Hatten (186-80, college: St.John's) who added 10 points and 4 assists during the contest. Osby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was Scottish-Nigerian Kieron Achara (208-83, college: Duquesne, agency: Two Points) with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Christoforos Stefanidis (184-80) scored 16 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Kolossos moved-up to tenth place. Kavala lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Kolossos will meet higher ranked Panathinaikos (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
