Second Stage Round 3: Maccabi T-A - Maccabi Haifa 76-72

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tel-Aviv. First ranked Maccabi T-A faced 3rd placed Maccabi Haifa. Host Maccabi T-A (21-3) defeated guests from Haifa (15-10) 76-72. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-72. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi T-A made 13 blocks. It was a great evening for American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. American-Polish guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis) helped adding 15 points. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American-Greek swingman Pat Calathes (208-85, college: St.Joseph's) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Defending champion maintains first place in League with 21-3 record. Loser Maccabi Haifa keeps the third position with ten games lost. Maccabi T-A will meet league's second-placed Hapoel Eilat on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and hope to secure a win.
