Very expected game when 18th ranked Perugia (8-23) lost on the road to second ranked Matera (21-11) 62-58 on Thursday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Perugia won third quarter 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Matera made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Perugia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Antonio Iannuzzi (207-91, agency: Two Points) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Argentinian guard Carlos Sebastian Vico (190-86, agency: Players Group) contributed with 15 points for the winners. point guard Giacomo Chiatti (183-86) answered with 7 points and 9 rebounds and forward Simone Bonamente (203-79) added 11 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Perugia. Perugia's coach Andrea Fabrizi tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Matera maintains second place with 21-11 record having just one points less than leader Torino. Perugia lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eighteenth position with 23 games lost. Matera will face league's leader Torino on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Perugia will play against Latina Basket (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
