Regular Season Round 55: Gunma - Chiba Jets 83-80

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Gunma (14-37) edged at home higher ranked Chiba Jets (25-26) 83-80 on Saturday. Chiba Jets were trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-21 charge of Gunma, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Chiba Jets outrebounded Gunma 54-40 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gunma made 8 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. It was a great evening for forward Dominique Keller (203-88, college: Illinois) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) helped adding 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals. Keller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Crosse) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds and forward Marquin Chandler (202-82, college: San Jose St.) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach Shinji Tomiyama rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Gunma maintains eleventh place with 14-37 record. Loser Chiba Jets keep the sixth position with 26 games lost. Gunma will face again higher ranked Chiba Jets (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
