An interesting game took place in Malaga where 4th placed Valencia Basket (19-12) was upset on the court of ninth ranked Unicaja Malaga (16-15) 79-73 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Valencia Basket. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-14. But Valencia Basket won second period 20-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Unicaja Malaga won last quarter 23-18. They made 22-of-23 free shots (95.7 percent) during the game. Valencia Basket was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Croatian swingman Krunoslav Simon (197-85, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). The former international swingman Sergi Vidal (198-81) helped adding 12 points and 5 rebounds. Five Unicaja Malaga players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian guard Stefan Markovic (194-88) scored 8 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Blusens M. Loser Valencia Basket keeps the fourth position with 12 games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Blusens Monbus (#8) in Santoago de Comp in the next round. Valencia Basket will play at home against Blancos de Rueda (#13) in Valladolid.
