Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both first ranked Rayos de Hermosillo and second-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas had identical 13-4 record. This time Rayos de Hermosillo used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Guaymas 93-86 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Ostioneros de Guaymas trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 31-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 86-93 at the end of the game. Rayos de Hermosillo made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. The former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) replied with 27 points and his fellow American import point guard Myron Allen (182-79, college: Lee JC) added 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rayos de Hermosillo (14-4) have an impressive ten-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. Ostioneros de Guaymas lost third consecutive game. They keep the second place with five games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will face Frayles de Guasave (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Mineros de Cananea (#6).
