Regular Season Round 20: Nogales - Cananea 101-108 OT

One of their biggest challengers Fuerza Guinda Nogales (9-9) fell to seventh ranked Mineros de Cananea (8-10) in overtime by seven points 101-108 on Saturday night. The game took place in Nogales. But the guests from Cananea were better at the end. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fuerza Guinda Nogales. The guests trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime then Fuerza Guinda Nogales managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Mineros de Cananea who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 17-10. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Fuerza Guinda Nogales' 46. They outrebounded Fuerza Guinda Nogales 42-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. Fuerza Guinda Nogales were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American swingman O'Louis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion) replied with 35 points (!!!) and Bahamas power forward Ryan Moss (200-74, college: UALR) added 20 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Fuerza Guinda Nogales. Five Mineros de Cananea and four Fuerza Guinda Nogales players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mineros de Cananea moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tijuana and Navolato. Fuerza Guinda Nogales at the other side keep the third position with nine games lost. Mineros de Cananea will face league's second-placed Ostioneros de Guaymas on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will play against Tijuana Zonkeys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
