Second Stage Round 5: Galil Gilboa - Maccabi Ashdod 73-79

Very important is a home loss of first ranked Galil Gilboa (14-13) against fourth ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-16) on Sunday night. Host Galil Gilboa was defeated by Maccabi Ashdod in a tough game in Rosh Pina 73-79. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-13. But Galil Gilboa won second period 24-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Ashdod forced 22 Galil Gilboa turnovers. Strangely Galil Gilboa outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 46-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. The former international point guard Dror Hagag (178-78, agency: Avi Zilberman) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Shawn Taggart (207-85, college: Memphis) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Amit Simhon (197-89) added 9 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Galil Gilboa. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maccabi Ashdod maintains fourth place in League with 11-16 record. Galil Gilboa at the other side still keeps top position with 13 games lost.
