Everything went according to plan when second ranked Panathinaikos (22-4) outplayed bottom-ranked Kavala (5-21) in Athens 95-73 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Kavala was better in third quarter 28-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Kavala to just 6 points in first quarter. Panathinaikos shot 63.8 percent from the field. They outrebounded Kavala 33-19 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Panathinaikos shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 59.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Kavala's players. American forward James Gist (205-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Croatian point guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84, agency: XL Basketball Agency) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American forward William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Canadian-Bosnian guard Nemanja Mitrovic (197-90, college: Portland) added 8 points in the effort for Kavala. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Panathinaikos have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 22-4 record having just three points less than leader Olympiacos. Kavala lost ninth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games.
