Regular Season Round 27: Tijuana - Cananea 90-98

The game between third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (12-11) and sixth ranked Mineros de Cananea (11-14) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Tijuana Zonkeys were defeated by Mineros de Cananea in a tough game in Tijuana 90-98. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Tijuana Zonkeys. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tijuana Zonkeys won third quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mineros de Cananea looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for international guard Gabriel Giron (190-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: Cal-Riverside) helped adding 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Jamaican forward Mugabe Thomas (193-80, college: Cedarville) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mineros de Cananea moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Navolato. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third position with 11 games lost. Mineros de Cananea will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play again at home against Mineros de Cananea and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
