We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Porlamar where 8th ranked Panteras (19-33) were defeated by ninth ranked Guaiqueries (20-31) 92-85. It was a great shooting night for Guaiqueries especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jimmy Baxter (198-80, college: S.Florida, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led the winners and scored 27 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Guaiqueries' coach Carlos Mercado allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Dominican power forward Elys Guzman (206-82, college: Bemidji St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and the former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) added 19 points respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Guaiqueries moved-up to eighth place. Panteras at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 33 games lost. Guaiqueries will play against bottom-ranked Toros (#10) in Maracay in the next round. Panteras will play on the road against the league's leader Marinos and will have a slim chance for a victory.
