Rayos de Hermosillo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Rayos de Hermosillo outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 31-20 including 22 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 65.0 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) who led the winners and scored 23 points. His fellow American import forward Kyle Spain (196-87, college: San Diego St.) accounted for 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach Dan Tacheny felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward James Penny (198-76, college: TCU) came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) added 15 points respectively for Tijuana Zonkeys in the defeat. Four Rayos de Hermosillo and five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 23-6 record. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third position with 13 games lost. They share it with Nogales. Rayos de Hermosillo will again play against Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round.
