Very important is a road loss of third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (15-16) against seventh ranked Frayles de Guasave (13-18) on Friday night. Visiting Tijuana Zonkeys were defeated by Frayles de Guasave in a tough game in Guasave 93-101. Tijuana Zonkeys were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Frayles de Guasave dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuana Zonkeys' 52. Frayles de Guasave players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. American forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Nick Stallings (190-83, college: Centenary, LA) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Stallings is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Frayles de Guasave's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward James Penny (198-76, college: TCU) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) added 23 points and 10 assists in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys. Five Frayles de Guasave and four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Cananea. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third position with 16 games lost. They share it with Nogales. Frayles de Guasave will again play against higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round.
