There was no surprise when 10th ranked Rio Claro (3-9) was crushed at home by third ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (9-3) 90-64 on Saturday. Sao Jose/Vinac made 24-of-26 free shots (92.3 percent) during the game. Sao Jose/Vinac outrebounded Rio Claro 34-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international Jefferson Antonio (207-83) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut) chipped in 18 points. Four Sao Jose/Vinac players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Vinicius Dione (196-87) who recorded 18 points and naturalized Syrian center Eder Araujo Gorges (212-81, college: Walsh) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sao Jose/Vinac have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Paulistano. Loser Rio Claro keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. Sao Jose/Vinac will face Palmeiras (#5) in Sao Paulo in the next round.
