Regular Season Round 2: Aishin SH - Tsukuba R. 71-65
Date: September 29, 2013
There was no surprise in Kariya where bottom-ranked Tsukuba R. (0-2) was defeated by top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (2-0) 71-65. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. 24 personal fouls committed by Tsukuba R. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) notched 8 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) supported him with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by American power forward Lamar Sanders (198-84, college: Lamar) did not help to save the game for Tsukuba R.. Guard Satoshi Kawai (182-82) added 17 points for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aishin Sea Horses maintains first position with 2-0 record, which they share with 5 other teams. Newly promoted Tsukuba R. still closes the standings with two games lost. Aishin Sea Horses' next round opponent will be Wakayama T. (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. Tsukuba R. will play against Hyogo S. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
