No shocking result in a game when Okapi Aalstar (2-0) beat on the road VOO Verviers-Pepinster (0-2) 69-62 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But VOO Verviers-Pepinster won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Okapi Aalstar made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Okapi Aalstar outrebounded VOO Verviers-Pepinster 48-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. American Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) notched 22 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Lithuanian power forward Christopher Young (206-79, college: Michigan, agency: Court Side) supported him with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Four Okapi Aalstar players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 5 rebounds by naturalized American forward Ralph Biggs (199-76, college: Towson, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for VOO Verviers-Pepinster. Serbian Nikola Jankovic (205-94) added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Okapi Aalstar will meet at home Liege Basket (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play against Kangoeroes (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
