Regular Season Round 5: Abejas - Gigantes 93-88

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Abejas (3-2) beat 11th ranked Gigantes (1-4) in Guanajuato 93-88 on Thursday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gigantes trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 29-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 88-93 at the end of the game. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds. American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. International guard Carlos Toussaint (190-91) answered with 20 points and American forward Robert Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris) added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Gigantes. Four Abejas and five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Abejas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toros. Loser Gigantes keep the eleventh position with four games lost. Abejas will face again Gigantes (#11) in Toluca in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
