Regular Season Round 1: Bilbao Basket - CAI Zaragoza 77-86

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Bilbao Basket (0-1) at the home court. Hosts were defeated by CAI Zaragoza (1-0) 86-77. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Bilbao Basket won third quarter 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (216-89) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). American power forward Joseph Jones (204-86, college: Texas A&M) contributed with 17 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. CAI Zaragoza's coach Jose Luis Abos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Alex Mumbru (202-79) answered with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Belgian forward Axel Hervelle (205-83) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Bilbao Basket. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CAI Zaragoza will play against CB Canarias in Tenerife in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bilbao Basket will play on the road against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Madrid to get more than just one victory in their record.
