There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Kumamoto V. (0-5) was defeated at home by leader Aishin Sea Horses (5-0) 81-73 on Saturday. Kumamoto V. was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Aishin Sea Horses dominated on the defensive end, holding Kumamoto V. to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Kumamoto V. 49-34 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kumamoto V. was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) chipped in 8 points and 15 rebounds. American guard Lamont Jones (183, college: Iona) produced a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Kumamoto V.'s coach Norman DeSilva rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Aishin Sea Horses. They maintain first place with 5-0 record, which they share with Mitsubishi DD. Kumamoto V. lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will have a break next round. Kumamoto V. will play again at home against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
