An interesting game was played in San Sebastian where Gran Canaria beat host Pais Vasco 72-63 on Saturday evening. Pais Vasco trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 14-8 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 63-72 at the end of the game. Naturalized Senegalese center Astou Ndour (198-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and American guard Brittany Chambers (173-91, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Senegalese power forward Oumoul Sarr (185-84) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Gran Canaria will meet at home Ibaizabal in the next round. Pais Vasco will play against Jopisa Burgos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
