Regular Season Round 3: Toyama Grouses - Saitama Bron. 72-64

There was an upset when Saitama Broncos (1-2) lost on the road to Toyama Grouses (1-0) 72-64 on Saturday. Saitama Broncos trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 25-17 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 64-72 at the end of the game. Toyama Grouses dominated on the defensive end, holding Saitama Broncos to just 6 points in first quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 34. It was a good game for American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Joho Masashi (183-82) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St.) answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import swingman Michael Joiner (200-81, college: Florida St.) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Saitama Broncos. Saitama Broncos' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toyama Grouses will face again Saitama Broncos (#9) at home in the next round.
