Regular Season Round 4: Toyama Grouses - Saitama Bron. 97-87

Everything went according to plan when top-ranked Toyama Grouses (2-0) beat at home 9th ranked Saitama Broncos (1-3) 97-87 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 50-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 34. Toyama Grouses forced 19 Saitama Broncos turnovers and outrebounded them 38-23 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds and Joho Masashi (183-82) who added 27 points and 4 assists during the contest. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St.) responded with 47 points (!!!) and his fellow American import swingman Michael Joiner (200-81, college: Florida St.) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Saitama Broncos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses moved-up to third place, which they share with Osaka Evessa and Kyoto Hannar. Loser Saitama Broncos dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Toyama Grouses will face Sendai 89ers (#5) at home in the next round. Saitama Broncos will play against Yokohama BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
