Regular Season Round 7: Pioneros - Panteras 90-73

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Pioneros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pioneros defeated 5th ranked Panteras in Cancun 90-73. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panteras to just 7 points in second quarter. Pioneros forced 19 Panteras turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) accounted for 19 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) came up with 24 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and Puerto Rican swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Panteras at the other side dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. They share the position with Fuerza Regia. Panteras will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Pioneros will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Panteras at Aguascalientes.
