Regular Season Round 5: La Rochelle - Lourdes 80-64

Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (2-3) was defeated on the road by leader La Rochelle (4-0) 80-64 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when La Rochelle's pressure prevailed and they won that period 19-9 extending their advantage to 16 points. British forward Andrew Thomson (205-84, college: Catawba) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and American forward Jarryd Cole (204-88, college: Iowa) chipped in 19 points. Forward Florian Lesca (195-89) responded with 20 points and center Raphael Giaimo (210-89, college: Seward County CC) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for La Rochelle. They maintain third place with 4-0 record behind leader Angers BC. Newly promoted Lourdes-Tarbes dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. La Rochelle will face Montbrison (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Lourdes-Tarbes will play against Sorgues BC (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
