Regular Season Round 3: IR - Haukar 87-113

An interesting game took place in Reykjavik where IR (1-2) was upset on its own court by Haukar (2-1) 113-87. It looked good early as IR took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Haukar had a 28-10 second period charge getting the lead and IR was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-113. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 44. They outrebounded IR 46-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. Haukar players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Kari Jonsson (190-97) contributed with 28 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for the winners. point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) answered with 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the former international guard Sveinbjorn Claessen (195-86) added 21 points in the effort for IR. Four IR players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar's next round opponent will be Snaefell (#8) in Stykkisholmur. IR will play on the road against Grindavik and hope to win that game.
