The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Halcones Rojos as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Pioneros) loss. Halcones Rojos defeated 12th ranked Halcones UV Xalapa in Veracruz 81-73. It looked good early as Halcones UV Xalapa took an 11-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Halcones Rojos took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 8 points. It was a good game for Spanish-Dominican forward Edward Santana (203-80) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (190-82, college: UTEP) contributed with 11 points and 6 assists for the winners. International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (185-86, college: W.Kentucky) answered with 18 points and Spanish center Jesus Fernandez (204-75) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Halcones UV Xalapa. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Pioneros. Halcones UV Xalapa at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with two games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Halcones Rojos will try to continue on its current victory against thirteenth ranked Halcones UV Xalapa on the road.
