Regular Season Round 4: Groningen - Weert 81-44
Date: October 24, 2013
Bottom-ranked Weert (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-44 loss to fourth ranked Groningen (3-2) in Groningen. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Weert's 26. Groningen forced 20 Weert turnovers and outrebounded them 44-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by American forward Jeff Robinson (198-88, college: Seton Hall) who scored that evening 23 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Cashmere Wright (183-90, college: Cincinnati, agency: Three Eye Sports) supported him with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. Groningen's coach Ivica Skelin felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by the former international center Kenneth van Kempen (207-87, college: Ohio, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Weert. The former international guard Jeremy Ormskerk (190-82, agency: Court Side) added 11 points for lost side. Groningen have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 3-2 record. Weert at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Groningen's next round opponent will be higher ranked Leeuwarden (#3) at home and it may be the game of the week. Weert will play against the league's leader Zwolle (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
