Regular Season Round 3: Breakers - Wildcats 89-96

Perth Wildcats (5-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat New Zealand Breakers (1-3) in Auckland 96-89. It looked good early as New Zealand Breakers took an 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Perth Wildcats took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 7 points. It was a great shooting night for Perth Wildcats especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American swingman James Ennis (201-90, college: Long Beach St.) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. New Zealand center Alex Pledger (213-87, college: Belm.Abbey) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Kerron Johnson (185-90, college: Belmont) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Four Perth Wildcats and five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Perth Wildcats' next round opponent will be Wollongong Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville. New Zealand Breakers will play at home against Adelaide 36ers (#3) and hope to win that game.
