An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Iwate. Leader Toyama Grouses faced 3rd placed Iwate Big Bulls. Guests from Toyama (5-0) defeated host Iwate Big Bulls (3-2) 68-53. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Iwate Big Bulls. It looked good early as Iwate Big Bulls took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toyama Grouses had a 19-6 second period charge getting the lead and Iwate Big Bulls were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 53-68. Toyama Grouses dominated on the defensive end, holding Iwate Big Bulls to just 6 points in second quarter. Toyama Grouses forced 19 Iwate Big Bulls turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) answered with 9 points and 6 rebounds and American-Panamanian forward Leonardo Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Iwate Big Bulls. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Toyama Grouses. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kyoto Hannar. and Osaka Evessa. Iwate Big Bulls at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Shinshu BW. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Iwate Big Bulls will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyama Grouses (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.
