Gran Canaria (2-1) recorded a loss on the court of Argon Uni Girona on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Argon Uni Girona 72-64. Gran Canaria trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 21-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 64-72 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Gran Canaria 42-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Charde Houston (185-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) who scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. Greek swingman Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-81) chipped in 7 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Brittany Chambers (173-91, college: Kansas St.) who recorded 23 points and naturalized Senegalese center Astou Ndour (198-94) added 9 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Argon Uni Girona will meet Jopisa Burgos (#7) on the road in the next round. Gran Canaria will play against Zamarat (#12) and hope to secure a win.
