Regular Season Round 3: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi.Ashdod 90-84

We should mention about the upset which took place in Haifa, where Maccabi Ashdod (1-2) lost to Maccabi Haifa (1-1) in a road game 84-90 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Ashdod won third quarter 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Haifa especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan point guard David Cubillan (181-87, college: Marquette) who scored 23 points and 5 assists. American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Maccabi Haifa's coach Danny Franco used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Ryan Pearson (198-90, college: George Mason) who recorded 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa will face Bnei Hasharon (#4) in Hod Hasharon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Maccabi T-A (#11) in Tel-Aviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
