Regular Season Round 5: Amsterdam - Groningen 54-71

Date: October 27, 2013
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Groningen (5-2) beat on the road bottom-ranked Amsterdam (0-6) 71-54 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Amsterdam was better in second period 14-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Amsterdam 48-36 including 36 on the defensive glass. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Jeff Robinson (198-88, college: Seton Hall) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International guard Arvin Slagter (191-85, agency: Court Side) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. The former international center Robert Krabbendam (213-86, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Court Side) answered with 10 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Aaron Roye (185-88) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Amsterdam. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Groningen. They maintain third place with 5-2 record having just -2 point less than leader Zwolle. Amsterdam lost their sixth game in a row. They still closes the standings with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
