The game had a very big importance for second-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Chalons-Reims) loss. SO Maritime Boulogne defeated 3rd placed Le Portel in Boulogne-sur-Mer 97-88. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Le Portel. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Le Portel was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. SO Maritime Boulogne players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for American forward Zachery Peacock (203-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Pro One Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. Naturalized Congolese point guard Loic Akono (176-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 assists for the winners. American forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) answered with 21 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Matthew Gibson (193-84) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Le Portel. Four SO Maritime Boulogne and five Le Portel players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SO Maritime Boulogne have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Fos Ouest. Le Portel at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Chalons-Reims and Evreux. Le Portel will play next round against Boulazac Basket trying to get back on the winning streak. SO Maritime Boulogne will try to continue on its current victory against sixteenth ranked SPO Rouen on the road.
